ID number checker

Check an ID number's format

Runs in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you share it.

Example

Checked in your browser and not kept. Shares and copies show the last 4 characters only.

ID number · United Arab Emirates

Valid format

ID type
Emirates ID
Number
784-1990-1234567-6
How this is calculated

Checks the length, the allowed characters and any fixed prefix of the chosen ID type, then the check digit where the type has one (Luhn for the Emirates ID, Verhoeff for Aadhaar, the Saudi weighting for the Iqama, the Medicare weighting). It never looks the number up anywhere, so a number with a valid format may still not exist.

A format check, not proof of identity or registration. It does not look anything up in a government record.

Auto-detected as Emirates ID (high confidence). If that is wrong, choose the ID type.

Valid format: the number follows the Emirates ID layout and its check digit matches.

How it works

  1. Choose the ID type, or leave it on auto-detect.
  2. Type or paste the number. Spaces and dashes are fine.
  3. We check the length, the allowed characters, any fixed prefix and, where the ID has one, the check digit.
  4. Read the verdict and the breakdown of each part of the number.

Questions

Which ID numbers can I check?

Emirates ID, Saudi Iqama, Indian Aadhaar, US Social Security number, UK National Insurance number, Bahrain CPR, Oman Civil ID and Australian Medicare number.

Does a valid result mean the ID is real?

No. It means the number has the right format and its check digit adds up. It does not show that the ID was issued, is current or belongs to the person in front of you. It is not identity verification.

How is an Emirates ID checked?

It must have 15 digits and start with 784, the code for the UAE. The last digit is a check digit worked out with the Luhn formula. A format check only, not identity verification.

Does the tool look the number up anywhere?

No. It does not query any government database. The check is pure arithmetic on the digits you type.

Where does the ID number go?
