How this is calculated

X uses a weighted count: every link counts as 23, and emoji and wide characters such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean count as 2, so it can differ from the character count. Bars are green under 80%, amber from 80 to 100% and red when over.

How it works

  1. Paste or type your post.
  2. See the characters, words and sentences, counted the way people see them, so an emoji counts as one.
  3. Check each platform bar: green under 80% of the limit, amber from 80 to 100%, red when over.
  4. Trim the post until every platform you need is green, then copy it.

Questions

Why is my X count different from the character count?

X uses a weighted count. Every link counts as 23 characters, and emoji and wide characters such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean count as 2.

Why did my SMS drop from 160 to 70 characters?

A character outside the standard SMS alphabet, often an emoji or an Arabic letter, switches the message to Unicode. One message then holds 70 characters, and 67 per part when it is split.

What are the limits for LinkedIn and Instagram?

A LinkedIn post holds 3,000 characters and a headline 220. An Instagram caption holds 2,200 characters and a bio 150.

Does it count Arabic text correctly?

Yes. Each Arabic letter counts as one character, on X too. In an SMS, Arabic text switches the message to Unicode, so one message holds 70 characters.

Is my post sent anywhere?
