How it works

  1. Paste a date or time, or choose Now.
  2. We detect the format: Unix seconds or milliseconds by length, ISO 8601, RFC 2822, day-first dates or phrases such as 3 days ago.
  3. Read it as ISO 8601, Unix seconds and milliseconds, RFC 2822, plain words, relative time, day of the year and week number.
  4. Add the time zones you need, and build your own format with tokens such as YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm.

Questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

It is the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 at midnight UTC. Computers use it because it is the same everywhere, whatever the time zone.

How do you tell seconds from milliseconds?

By size. A number below 100,000,000,000 is read as seconds, which is usually 10 digits today. A 13-digit number is read as milliseconds.

Is 04/05/2026 the 4th of May or the 5th of April?

We read it day first, as 4 May 2026, and show the month-first reading too. If one number is above 12, the order is clear and we use it.

Which time zone does it use?

Dates without a zone are read in your device's local time. The results show UTC, your local time and every time zone you list.
