How this is calculated

VAT = net amount × 5%. Gross total = net amount + VAT. Each amount is rounded half up to 2 decimal places, as AED uses.

How it works

  1. Pick the country. The standard rate and currency follow: UAE 5%, Saudi Arabia 15%, Bahrain 10%, Oman 5%, UK 20%, Australia GST 10%.
  2. Add VAT: VAT = net × rate; gross = net + VAT.
  3. Remove VAT: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate); VAT = gross − net.
  4. Each figure is rounded to the currency's decimals: 2 for most, 3 for BHD and OMR. Zero-rated shows VAT of 0.00; exempt shows no VAT line.

Questions

How do I work out VAT from a price that already includes it?

Divide the gross price by 1 plus the rate. At 5%, AED 1,050 ÷ 1.05 = AED 1,000 net, so the VAT is AED 50. This is an estimate, not tax advice.

What is the VAT rate in the UAE and Saudi Arabia?

The UAE standard rate is 5% under Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017. Saudi Arabia's standard rate has been 15% since July 2020, set by ZATCA. Rules change; check your case with a qualified adviser.

What is the difference between zero-rated and exempt?

A zero-rated supply is taxable at 0%, so the invoice shows VAT of 0.00. An exempt supply is outside VAT, so no VAT line appears at all. Which applies depends on the goods or service, so check with a qualified adviser.

Can I use a rate that is not listed?

Yes. Choose Custom rate and type it. The tool runs the sum and reminds you that it is not an official rate for that country.
